Don't upset the family

There is so much that is changing in our society but which the hectic 24 / 7 news service mentions in transit as it moves from one unfolding crisis to another. There was a phrase "mentioned in dispatches" which denoted that whilst your action was acknowledged the import was hidden away in a report.
The Government has been hacking away at the undergrowth of our social substructure for some time now. Because we have such a poor political Opposition they have been able to cut around the body corporate to such an extent that for instance, in the field of being able to obtain 'Legal Aid' it is now so restricted that only the rich can seek justice through the courts. Ordinary people can no longer seek legal redress it's simply too expensive.
The news that over half the medicines which used to be available to cure cancer have now been restricted by NICE on account of their cost to the public purse will have little effect on the users of Private Medicine, the wealthy.
In these two instances alone the trend of a disproportionate widening of the gap between the rich and poor in this country should be the stuff of headlines, or at least political outrage by the opposition party but they are strangely silent cowed by the fear that they will be branded profligate.
The Tories are holding a strong hand. The media have softened us up to believe we were on the brink of some sort of financial disaster which only their 'austerity' measures could solve. Of course it was austerity for a specific group of people who were made to pay for the profligacy of the bankers and their greedy desire for riches but at "someone else's expense".
What next. The Conservatives have another 4 years to use the surgeons knife and what then as the patient stripped to the bone will be reminded, as in a Capone film, not to upset "the family"!!
