The death of Charles Kennedy

The death of Charles Kennedy has been a shock to many who follow the political ferment.
He was the amiable leader, a man of the wisecrack which indicated his connection to the proper root of a person who purports to represent ordinary people.
The tributes have poured in from the nation and his colleagues in the House of Commons and unreservedly the measure of the man shines through in these emotional tributes.
He singularly opposed the the war in Iraq when all around him were being won over by the silvery words of Tony Blair. He alone had the political courage to wear his inner misgivings on his sleeve and not afraid to swim against the current. His principles outshone the cries around him as the politicians threw their fury at him describing his opposition as unpatriotic. He also was a lone Liberal voice against the Liberals joining forces with the Tories in the Coalition Government. He was again proved right in his lone opposition and it is the measure of a person that not only was he right on two important occasions, he was even more courageous in standing against the trend
