Subject: Is it time to chose autocracy.
How important is it to have a long term sitting leader as the head of all of the major nations. Vladimir Putin is an autocrat with virtually no opposition, Xi Jinping has cemented himself as the Chinese leader but in America the democratic forefathers established rules which neutered a rise of any individual or party to become all powerful. The upsurge of public popularism as a criteria for winning has changed all that and the rise of Donald Trump is testimony to the use of media and powerful glitzy professionally presented gatherings to present a powerful individual who almost irrespective of his credentials garners a fan base like a pop star which has everything to do with charisma and little to do with the values which used to be valued by the voter 30 years ago.
Perhaps if Trump is re-elected, as seems possible he will establish a sort of dynastic continuity (much like the Kennedy's) but with an electoral system which is manipulable through the connivance of the individual State system and their democratic independence. He already has the Supreme Court tied up as witnessed the abolishing of Row v Wade by the Courts conservative (Republican) majority and the willingness of many of the Governors in certain States to pull the pin on a woman’s right to abortion.
Do we need dictatorial leadership in this country, do we need to stop the experiment on human rights in favour of a headcount for a President, not based on party lines but on national diktat.
