The problem with
having a dog around is that they have 'you' in their proverbial pocket.
It's especially true if they are a powerful breed since not only is your
world theirs but everyone else's world is
theirs as well since the whole environment, the cats and dogs the small
and large, the cars and pedestrians, the sheep and cows, the
environmental footpath which has to remain poo free is an evaluated
nightmare. The list is long and exhaustive, it contains
many fraught situations where a quiet walk turns into a battlefield of
life and death decisions which have to be made instantly. The panting
mutt is transformed into a frightening weapon of mass destruction in the
blink of an eye at the sight of a cat or perhaps
another dog wishing to proclaim his or her territory. The dog owners eyes are continually scanning the neighbourhood for signs. The fear threshold is never far away
All kinds of elemental
foes are paraded through the portals of the dog owners brain as the
world around becomes a potential crisis.
To the dog of
course this is all lost. The implications of a fight in this PC,
everyone has rights world, even cats is plainly ridiculous to the dog.
Cats are fair game as they preen their way into the human
psychology which dogs wish to be their preserve. It shouldn't be
possible to love a cat like dog but some people do and dogs have to be
aware. Cats are not pursued for their poo, cats are not constrained by
leads or the time they can be out with their mates,
cats are independent and aloof and it's this 'off the radar' aloofness which is the most irritating.
So "a cat a day" is most dogs motto, it should be ingrained on their owners forehead
and the dog owner should stop being so god damned squeamish.
